Klay Thompson reacts to David West’s retirement

Klay Thompson, David West

Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson is going to miss his NBA Champion teammate David West.

Although the two have only played together for two seasons, they have accomplished the ultimate team goal in the NBA not only once, but twice after winning back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017.

In a brief but heartfelt post on Twitter, Thompson expressed his admiration for West following the news that the big man is finally calling it a career.

After securing two NBA championship rings to adorn his fingers, West announced his retirement on Thursday. He walks away from the game on top, having been part of the team that blanked the Cleveland Cavaliers in this year’s NBA Finals, which also likely made it a lot easier for him to decide that it’s time to move on to the next chapter of his life.

West was way past his prime when he joined the Warriors on a one-year contract in 2016, but he was a calming and stabilizing voice in the locker room and on the bench for an already talented group that didn’t ask much from the veteran.

As a testament to the importance of the intangibles that he provided to the Warriors, the team re-signed him to another one-year deal in 2017, culminating in another NBA title.

With West gone, the Warriors will look for the likes of Jonas Jerebko, Jordan Bell, and Kevon Looney to provide muscle at the four-spot.

In 15 years in the NBA, West racked up averages of 13.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 1,034 games.
