The Golden State Warriors are right in the thick of their quest for another NBA championship –  chasing their fourth title in the last seven seasons. But win or lose, Stephen Curry already accomplished a lasting honor awaiting him at season's end.

The Davidson product spent three seasons playing for his alma mater before making the move to the NBA. But despite it being 16 years since he first set foot on campus as a student-athlete back in 2006, Stephen Curry made sure to settle some unfinished business. The Warriors star is set to graduate alongside the rest of Davidson's Class of 2022.

Davidson sent out a formal announcement on Stephen Curry's academic endeavors on their official Twitter account:

Just as their tweet emphasizes, Stephen Curry has long been an advocate for education. That's why it comes as no surprise to hear that he's finished his degree – even if it's come much later than that of his peers who walked the halls alongside him during his time at Davidson from 2006 to 2009.

But while the Warriors star obviously wanted to complete his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology for the sake of his own education and learning, he also had a basketball motive for pursuing the vaunted diploma. Davidson only retires jerseys of its student-athletes who eventually graduate, something that Steph Curry was unable to accomplish until this season.

Via ESPN report from 2015:

The school retires only the jerseys of players who graduated. And Curry, the most recognized and accomplished player in school history, has not completed his degree requirements after going to the NBA a year early in 2009.

Finishing his degree was clearly something that Stephen Curry had intended to do all along. The Warriors icon spoke out on Davidson refusing to grant him an exception back in 2015, at the height of his rise as one of the faces of the NBA.

“I knew what I signed up for when I went to Davidson,” Curry said to ESPN back in 2015. “I made a promise to coach [Bob] McKillop and my family that when I left school back in '09 that that would be accomplished — and it will be soon. Hopefully sooner than later.”

Stephen Curry has now made good on his promise. Academics now aside, the Warriors superstar will look to couple his upcoming jersey retirement with another ring ceremony as Golden State barrels into the Western Conference Finals.
