As of right now, Golden State Warriors swingman Andrew Wiggins can't play home games in the regular season because he's unvaccinated against COVID-19. Wiggins tried for a religious exemption but was denied.

However, because San Francisco's vaccination rule doesn't go into effect until Oct. 13, Wiggins will be at Monday's Media Day, will practice in training camp and will participate in the Warriors' four preseason games, per The Athletic's Anthony Slater.

Warriors president Bob Myers didn't want to go into Wiggins' vaccination status on Monday, but he said he thinks everything will be sorted out by the time the regular season rolls around. What that actually means is unclear, because Wiggins has been pretty open about not wanting to get vaccinated. Perhaps he'll change his mind or something else will happen that will allow him to play, but as it stands right now, he wouldn't be able to play.

The Warriors will be counting on Wiggins this season after he played pretty well for them last season, especially with Klay Thompson still recovering from a torn Achilles. There's a chance Thompson isn't ready to play until the calendar flips to 2022, so it could be another few months without him.

Golden State didn't trade Wiggins and assets for another star player to help out Stephen Curry and Co., making the swingman's presence more important. We'll see what his status is as the regular season rolls around in a few weeks.
