The Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors face off in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the first Finals game that will take place outside of the United States. Stephen Curry is center stage in this series.

This is unmarked ground for the Raptors, who have never been in the Finals in franchise history – though they have come close in years past with Vince Carter, DeMar DeRozan and other Raptors stars.

Of course, for the Warriors, this is old hat. Golden State have now made the Finals for five straight seasons, a stunning feat in NBA history that has been matched only by the dynastic Bill Russell Celtics in the 1960s (a team that went to 10 straight NBA Finals).

Because the league has become utterly obsessed with the 3-point shot these days, the Warriors’ rise to prominence has coincided with the reliance on 3-point shooting – most notably from the team’s two-time MVP, Stephen Curry.

Widely believed to be the best shooter in NBA history, Curry has delivered multiple 3-point shooting records in his career, and the most recent one fell in Game 1 of the Finals against the Raptors, per NBA TV:

That’s right, Curry is the first player in NBA history to make 100 triples over the course of his Finals career. As long as he keeps playing at this same level, and his Warriors keep making the Finals every year, it seems likely that Curry is not finished etching his name in the history books regarding 3-point shooting.
