In order to honor the legacy of Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant, Rachel Nichols of ESPN asked dozens of players about their experiences with the five-time champion and 18-time All-Star, including Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.
For his part, Curry detailed the “disrespectful” look he received from Kobe during his rookie year.
“At the Forum [Warriors former home stadium] my rookie year we played against them [the Lakers] and I got switched onto him in an ‘iso' situation, and, you know, I'm a scrawny, 170-pound rookie coming in, and the look he gave me was so damn disrespectful it was crazy,” the Warriors star shared.
What was it like to step onto the court against Kobe for very the first time? I spent weeks asking dozens of NBA players that question and wow, the stories that came out from Steph, LeBron, KD, Melo, John Wall, Kyrie, James Harden, Kyle Lowry, Draymond, Paul George & so many more pic.twitter.com/iUMQVfhnDI

Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary of the tragic and untimely passing of one of the NBA’s greatest legends. The Lakers greatand his young daughter Gianna were killed in a helicopter crash last year, though it still truly doesn’t feel real that the world no longer has the Black Mamba in it.
As the Curry noted, Bryant was known to be extraordinarily competitive and seemingly disdainful of his foes at times. However, it all came from a truly superhuman drive to win at all costs–often at the expense of rookies, such as the Warriors star.
Of course, almost every big name in the NBA was inspired in some way by Bryant’s insatiable desire to win, and almost all of them quote the “Mamba mentality” mindset as an exceptional frame of mind for someone who wants to succeed at the highest level.
Though the world will never be the same without Kobe, the memories everyone has of him–including from top players like Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry–will allow him to live on forever.
