It goes without saying that basketball has had an immeasurable impact on the life of Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry.

Speaking to Michael Lee of The Athletic, the three-time NBA champion opened up about how important golf has become for him, as well as the type of effect this sport has had on his entire being:

“It’s a nice, peace of mind type of vibe, and you can compete, too. You just enjoy it all the way around,” Curry said this week after spending nearly four hours playing 18 holes on one of hottest, humid, tan-inducing days of the year. “It’s mentally, being able to get away. Do something that you enjoy doing, being around good people.”

Recently, Curry agreed to bankroll Howard University's golf programs for the next six years. According to the two-time MVP winner, this decision stemmed from his desire to provide an opportunity for aspiring golfers to potentially reap the same benefits he has attained from this beautiful game:

“I assumed there was a golf program at Howard. He talked about how much he loved it. I asked how was the team and all that. He said, ‘There is no team.’ Told me how he tried to start a club team and put up flyers and doing things from the ground up. The ideas kind of came from that,” Curry said. “I knew how much (golf has) meant to me, not even professionally. It’s a way of life type of thing. I wanted to create access and opportunities because of that.”

Curry is a very good golfer and has played in some professional events, so what started out as a hobby has now become quite a serious second sport for him. This just shows how determined and innately great an athlete Curry is, as he seems to have successful translated his unrivaled basketball abilities to the sport of golf.
