Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry lost in the MVP race, finishing third behind eventual winner Nikola Jokic and runner-up Joel Embiid. Interestingly, though, Steph got more first place votes than Embiid.

As Marc Stein of the New York Times revealed, Jokic won the MVP honor by a landslide, getting 91 first place votes for a total of 971 points. Meanwhile, although Embiid finished second with 586 points, most of it came from second, third, fourth and fifth place votes. He only got one first place vote, while Curry ended up having five.

Now those are numbers that will certainly disappoint a number of Philadelphia 76ers fans.

Joel Embiid was the heavy favorite to win the MVP award early in the season, but injuries and the health and safety protocols of the NBA limited him to just 51 contests this 2020-21. Still, getting just one first place vote after leading the Sixers to the top seed in the East can be shocking.

Meanwhile, Stephen Curry undoubtedly had one of the best individual seasons of his career, finishing as the scoring champion with 32.0 points average in 63 games. However, the Warriors did end up missing the postseason after failing to beat the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in tournament.

Even though Curry's brilliance can't be denied, some might argue that his first place votes might be too much

Warriors fans will be happy with what Curry and the Dubs achieved in their latest campaign. As for JoJo and his Sixers, here's to hoping they can use the MVP voting as an added motivation if they need any.
