It seems like Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry is excited for his potential play-in tournament showdown with Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

After leading the Dubs to a 113-101 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, Curry spoke about his rivalry with James and why he always looks forward to their matchups on the court.

“You expect greatness,” the Warriors star said of the rivalry, per Melissa Rohlin of Fox Sports. “It just brings out another level of intensity and excitement.”

Well, Stephen Curry just made the play-in even more exciting with these latest comments.

While it is still unknown whom the Warriors will face in the first round of the play-in, it is worth noting that LeBron James and the Lakers hold the seventh seed heading to Sunday’s final regular-season games. Should the Purple and Gold lose, they will automatically stay in said spot and play Golden State.

However, should the Lakers win and the Portland Trail Blazers lose to the Denver Nuggets, LeBron and Co. will climb to sixth and avoid the Warriors and the play-in altogether. The Lakers and Blazers both winning would mean LA in the play-in.

Nonetheless, there is no doubt that fans want to see Golden State and LA go all out in a battle for a playoff spot. Nothing will beat an opening salvo like that!

Curry and James had several great battles in the past few years. Most noteworthy are their four straight NBA Finals meetings from 2015 to 2018 when LeBron was still with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors won three out of the four series, but James notably led the Cavs to the title in 2016 after going down 3-1 to the Dubs.

The play-in might not be on the same level as the Finals, but a Curry-James battle in a highly important game is just as exciting.

As Curry said it, you expect greatness when that happens.
