Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry not only carries a huge load for his team every night but he also maximizes his stature as an NBA player to make a valuable impact on the society. About a year ago, Curry and his wife, Ayesha, established their foundation named ‘Eat. Learn. Play.' in an effort to extend a helping hand to the needy, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, the charity was able to feed around 16 million children and families based in Oakland which remains at risk of food insecurity. The two-time MVP reacted to the huge steps that his foundation has taken over the past year but also claimed that more work should be done in order to mitigate the problem.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Stephen Curry said recently. “We’ve been able to mobilize quickly. We didn’t expect to have such an impact — we only launched a year and a half ago. But so many kids were hanging in the dark. It was alarming.”

“We are excited about the work we’re doing but it’s hard to celebrate because it means the need is so great. That’s the dichotomy.”

The Currys started Eat.Learn.Play in the summer of 2019 with hopes of addressing the essential aspects of a healthy childhood namely nutrition, education, and recreation. In addition, the level of influence that the couple possesses also allowed the foundation to pool funds from generous contributors as they were able to raise more than $190 million in its first full year of operations.

Aside from delivering meals to the community, Eat. Learn. Play is also partnering with local growers in order to allow families to have access to fresh produce boxes.

By way of a collaboration with World Central Kitchen, the foundation was able to engage with local restaurants as these establishments are being paid $10 for every meal that they send to the families in need. A total of 130 businesses were able to rehire their staff and avoid closure due to the initiative.

Ultimately, Stephen Curry aims to utilize Eat. Learn. Play in an effort to positively effectuate the community in any way that he can moving forward.

“This is a priority,” the Warriors star said. “Obviously basketball is the main thing. But this is setting a great foundation for how I spend my focus in the future.
