All-Star Weekend is one of the most festive parts of the NBA season, and one of the staples of event are all the epic parties that go down. However, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is having none of it, with the 30-year-old telling his shoe sponsor, Under Armour, to ditch their All-Star Weekend party altogether in order to use the money for a better cause:
It appears that the supposed party fund was put to great use, as the recently snapped photos of Curry's newly renovated childhood recreation center in his hometown of Charlotte are very impressive.
Surely, the marketing team at Under Armour would have been painstakingly planning out their party months prior to the All-Star break. There are no details on when Curry made his request/demand, but most likely, at least some planning must have already been underway.
Well, this is Steph Curry we're talking about here — the man who pretty much single-handedly brought the Under Armour brand to the limelight — so his wish is simply their command. And it's not as if he had a preposterous request, with the money actually being spent on a better cause.
This was indeed a missed opportunity for Under Armour to make some noise during All-Star Weekend via the traditional lavish party, but in reality, this might have actually worked in their favor from a PR perspective. By following Curry's lead, the brand was able to take a “high road” approach and actually put the money to good use.
As always, kudos to Stephen Curry and his out-of-the-box mentality.
