Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is still chasing after Ray Allen's 3-point record. There was some hype that Curry could pull it off at home against the Portland Trail Blazers last week before the Warriors went on a long road trip, though he would have needed to hit an NBA-record 16 triples to do it. The Dubs star ultimately went just 6-of-17 from deep in that game and then struggled to the tune of 3-of-14 long-range shooting in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers over the weekend.

Curry admitted before Monday's game against the Indiana Pacers that he regrets some of that hype over that Blazers game, per ESPN's Nick Friedell:

Curry said that while he would have still had the belief he could hit 16 3-pointers and break the record at home, having the whole world talk about him making 16 “sparked a little extra — I won't call it tension, just anxiousness about the whole night.”

Hitting 16 3-pointers would have broken Allen's record for most 3-pointers made all-time and Warriors teammate Klay Thompson's record of 14 3-pointers made in one game. Curry started slow before picking up a bit of steam, though something he didn't regret was his shot selection:

“And those shots I took, those first four [against Portland] I missed all four, I would shoot those whether it was Game 1, Game 82, the playoffs,” Curry said. “That's how you approach the game. It just had a different context to it. It feels a little bit different now knowing we're right there. It will happen when it happens and I'll enjoy it when it does.”

The Warriors star needs seven 3-pointers to pass Allen, and Monday against the Pacers very well could be the record-breaking night. If not Monday, then it would almost certainly happen on Tuesday against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Whenever it does happen, Curry will be happy to have that monkey off his back so he can focus even more on winning basketball games.
