Aside from Stephen Curry, Gary Payton II is also presenting a strong case to becoming very reliable player for the Golden State Warriors this season.

The younger Warriors team is off to a great start, having won five of their first six games. And one of the most notable performers thus far is Gary Payton II.

Among Payton's wide array of qualities, it was his defensive tenacity that thrilled Warriors head coach Steve Kerr the most.

“He's just a great weapon to have, defensively especially, but he's also hitting his threes this year,” Kerr said of Payton after Warriors' 103-82 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder via NBC Sports. “So he has worked hard on his shot, dynamic defensively. Ready every single night. Always cheering everybody on. He's a guy you can play 20 minutes or zero and he's still got the same energy, the same life. He's just a great guy to have on the team, great teammate.”

Like Kerr, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry also sees the same exact thing on Payton.

According to Curry, the Warriors made the right decision in re-signing Payton as he has given the team the “edge” on the defensive end while also proving that he knock down shots every now and then.

“Defensively he gives us an edge,” Curry previously said of Payton. “If he’s going to get open shots, he has to take them. We just want him to stay locked in, stay competitive and stay focused on when his moment comes and show he can do it.”
