Most fans believe that it's the Golden State Warriors‘ potent offense that helped them win three titles in five years. However, for head coach Steve Kerr, it is their defense that turned them into a dynasty.

With that said, in the coming season, emphasis will be placed on locking down teams once again.

Per Ali Thanawalla of NBC Sports, Kerr shared that his goal for this season is to be among the top defensive teams in the NBA. He takes pride in the fact that over the last few years, the Warriors have been one of the best defensive teams in the league.

Kerr also pointed out that this 2020-21, they have the players to achieve this lofty goal.

“The biggest thing from my standpoint, my staff's standpoint is, we have to become a top-10 defensive team again. That really was the underrated aspect of the Warriors teams the last seven, eight years,” the Warriors coach said.

“It's always been one of the best defensive teams in the league, and in order to really compete at the highest level, you've got to be excellent defensively. So that's the focus going into training camp. We're going to try to rebuild our defense. We've got the length and the athleticism to be very good, but it's going to require a lot of work and we know that.”

In the 2014-15 NBA season—Kerr's first season with the team—the Warriors were the best defensive team in the league with a rating of 100.4. From that season up to 2018-19, the Dubs ranked sixth, second, 11th and 11th, respectively.
