We're three years away from the next U.S. presidential election, but Steve Kerr won't hesitate to vote for his colleague and former coach Gregg Popovich if he was to run for president.

“I truly would vote for Pop. Like, he would make a great president,” Kerr told reporters Wednesday ahead of a Western Conference Finals rematch with the San Antonio Spurs. “All jokes aside. I would vote for him.”

Steve Kerr won two championships under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio during the latter end of his playing career and cited Popovich's “honesty and integrity” as traits he would want someone who will lead the nation to have.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry mirrored his coach's comments, saying Popovich is “great for the NBA and would be even better for the country probably.”

The 68-year-old coach has been beloved by the NBA community during his 20-year tenure in the league, often unafraid to speak his mind and tactfully use his signature midwestern sarcasm or a deft seriousness when the situation calls for it.

Both Kerr and Popovich have voiced their displeasure with the current presidential regime of Donald Trump many times since his election, and fans have even modeled t-shirts after both coaches in a makeshift presidential campaign.

Gregg Popovich will lead Team USA in its next quest for prominence at the world stage after coach Jeff Van Gundy did his part on winning the AmeriCup with non-NBA players to keep USA Basketball in its way to qualify for the FIBA championships.
