Andre Iguodala was advised beforehand that the Golden State Warriors felt they had no choice but to trade him if Kevin Durant left in free agency, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Iguodala will make $17,185,185 in 2019-20, the final year of his contract. Durant agreed to a four-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets. The Warriors agreed to trade Iggy to the Memphis Grizzlies on June 30.

The Warriors entered free agency privately vowing to keep Andre Iguodala and his $17.2 million salary on the books if Kevin Durant stayed with Golden State. But Iguodala was advised beforehand, according to two people briefed on the discussions who were not authorized to discuss them publicly, that the Warriors felt they had no choice but to trade him if Durant decided to leave.

Andre Iguodala probably knew he was getting traded when he did that interview with The Breakfast Club. The 2015 Finals MVP talked about how the Warriors didn't manage his knee injury correctly in the 2018 Western Conference Finals.

Iggy said the Warriors medical staff was releasing updates on his injury saying it was a bone bruise, when it was actually a full-blown fracture. Nevertheless, like Durant, Iguodala will probably have his No. 9 jersey retired by the Dubs one day. He was a big part of their three championships in five years.
