Rudy Gobert could be a fit in Golden State? It seems preposterous to even consider the possibility of Utah trading their star big man to one of their rivals. But an anonymous west exec believes it could happen.

“If Rudy Gobert becomes available this summer, I think you’d find a lot of those veterans with the Warriors might want the team to make a run at him.”

The one area where Golden State was never the strongest was in the post during the dynasty years. Their stars have typically stemmed from the guard and forward positions. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson have made up an elite backcourt for years. Draymond Green profiles as a small/power forward. Kevin Durant was a ball-handling forward. But the team hasn't always had that star presence at the center position.

So it is feasible that Warriors players display interest in trading for Rudy Gobert over the summer. James Wiseman was supposed to step in and become the next star big man in Golden State, but the has dealt with injuries which have held him off the court. The exec believes that Wiseman would be included in a potential trade for Gobert.

“It would cost them Wiggins and Wiseman but if you believe in Jordan Poole and Klay [Thompson] to man the wings for the next few years, I think the Warriors would have to consider it. Talent-wise, Wiggins and Wiseman for Gobert is a good deal for both sides.”

Rudy Gobert would be a nice fit for the Warriors. There may be added motivation for Golden State to make a deal if they fail to win a championship. For now, both the Jazz and Warriors are focused on making deep postseason runs. But the Rudy Gobert situation will be something worth monitoring down the road.
