The Golden State Warriors were able to reach a massive extension with superstar point guard Stephen Curry, a move that was always in the cards for one of the best players in the NBA and a historic icon in the Warriors organization. The four-year extension worth $215 million is going to keep Curry in Northern California for quite some time.

However, there were some minor issues as the two sides discussed the extension, according to Drew Shiller of NBC Sports Bay Area.

“All [Curry] needed to be sure about was that the Warriors shared in his pursuit of a title. And he had to get that fourth year, which according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations, was a minor sticking point because of the enormous cap figure: $59.6 million.”

Curry wants to win, and apparently, so do the Warriors. Klay Thompson is set to return, and they added Otto Porter Jr. in free agency as well and could easily be one of the favorites to come out of the Western Conference.

Curry wanted that promise, and he also wanted to be assured that fourth year, which was a crucial part of the deal.

Truth be told, the Warriors were never going to let Curry walk away. Instead, they have essentially cemented him to their franchise for the next few years and can hopefully have him retire as a Warrior.

A minor bump in the road, and the Warriors had no choice but to give Stephen Curry what he wants.
