This summer just got more interesting for coaches, especially after the NBA released the schedules of all teams and making it known that they will start next season earlier than usual. While many may think that they will be hard-pressed to practice their sets in less time, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is still keeping his offseason routine and does not plan to cram.

The 51-year-old recently spoke to Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle, where he shared his plans for the remainder of the offseason, and once training camp opens. He also joked about how he works differently as compared to former NFL head coach Jon Gruden.

“I’m on the phone, talking to Bob Myers, talking to our coaches and to different people. Writing down thoughts, putting together plans for our coaching retreat. It might be just something that pops into my head, where I just stop and write something down. But I’m not Jon Gruden, I’m not waking up at five in the morning and going to the film room,” Kerr said.

With the Dubs successfully retaining their core and Kevin Durant having a full season with the team last year, they will continue to be the odds-on favorites to win another title. Steve Kerr’s experience also gives them another advantage against teams, as he knows what it takes to win, both as a player and coach.

Kerr’s statement is definitely good news for the Bay Area faithful as he remains calm and not worried about the task on hand. He is showing the utmost trust in his players and staff that they can do the right job despite the shorter preparation time. It also proves that he is committed to his old and proven ways, which has been one of their team’s keys to success.
