Golden State Warriors center Willie Cauley-Stein must have accrued some good will over the weekend.

The veteran center made a crazy “flip” shot against the Orlando Magic after getting blocked by Jonathan Isaac, somehow spinning the ball off the backboard with some sauce to get it to fall through the hoop.

It is just about the most unconventional basket you will ever see. But of course, not much has been conventional about the Warriors this season.

Golden State signed Cauley-Stein to shore up their frontcourt after losing both Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins in free agency. The 26-year-old was coming off a pair of decent years in Sacramento in which he averaged double figures in scoring and established himself as a versatile big that could even switch onto smaller guards on the perimeter.

Cauley-Stein has been more of a role player for the Warriors thus far. He has started in 16 of his 17 appearances, but he is also playing only 22.5 minutes per game despite the Warriors still missing Kevon Looney. He has been a decent rim protector, averaging 1.1 blocks per game, and he can score when called upon (though not always in this fashion).

Of course, Cauley-Stein's usage rate could be low because he thrives in pick-and-roll. Whereas he frequently benefited from playing with De'Aaron Fox in Sacramento, he only played one game — and scored 12 points — with Stephen Curry as his point guard.

The Warriors are trying to find any answer they can. Unfortunately, they fell to 4-17 on the season after the Magic defeated them.
