Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson's availability for their upcoming Week 14 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers remains up in the air after being diagnosed with a turf toe injury, per NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport. His status for the game will be evaluated in the days to come, but right now it's definitely in doubt.

The Georgia native was on fire in Washington's Week 12 tilt against the Dallas Cowboys in which he generated 115 rushing yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns scored en route to a lopsided 41-16 triumph. This past week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, though, he found himself limited on the offensive end with only 14 rushing yards on two carries due to his toe injury.

Despite Gibson's injury, Washington still managed to come out with a 23-17 upset win against the Steelers after leaning on their aerial attack led by quarterback Alex Smith, tight end Logan Thomas and wide receiver Cam Sims.

Gibson has been a key part of Washington's ground game as a rookie, tallying a total of 659 rushing yards on 141 carries and 11 scored touchdowns through 12 games played. The team is still hoping Gibson will be ready to suit up for the upcoming tilt against the 49ers, especially if they want to extend their ongoing three-game winning streak. Washington will be aiming for a much-needed victory in Week 14 in hopes of snagging the top spot in the NFC East away from the similarly streaking New York Giants.

If Gibson is unable to go, J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber will get the bulk of the work at running back. McKissic has been a reliable weapon in the passing game for Smith, and he caught 10 passes for 70 yards against Pittsburgh. Barber got 14 carries but only tallied 23 yards.
