The Washington Football Team is making a drastic change in their starting rotation. Backup quarterback Kyle Allen will now start under center in their Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

NFL reporter Tom Pelissero also added that returning veteran quarterback Alex Smith will backstop Allen instead of Haskins, who has now been demoted to third string. The Washington Football Team confirmed the change on Wednesday morning.

It had been reported just a few days ago that Ron Rivera was thinking about making a change at quarterback, and now it's happening after a sluggish 1-3 start to the season.

The former Ohio State Buckeye in Haskins started the season on a positive note with a surprising 27-17 win against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. He tallied 178 passing yards on 17-of-31 passes along with a passing touchdown.

The sophomore had a better individual performance in their Week 2 encounter against the Arizona Cardinals by tallying 223 yards through the air on a 19-of-33 passing clip along with a passing touchdown. He failed to get the entire offense going, though, as his team suffered a 30-15 disappointing loss.

Haskins had his worst game of the season against the Cleveland Browns, throwing three interceptions in a 34-20 Week 3 loss. The losses continued to pile up for Washington after facing the dominant Baltimore Ravens in Week 4 proceedings. The New Jersey native threw for 314 yards and rushed for a touchdown, but it wasn't nearly enough in a 31-17 defeat.

Both Rivera and Allen go way back in their time together on the Carolina Panthers. Rivera hopes that his former playmaker can lead the team to its second win of the season as they face a tough task of facing the Rams in Week 5. Los Angeles is 3-1 on the season and coming off a 17-9 victory over the New York Giants.
