Ron Rivera was forced to turn to veteran Alex Smith on Sunday after Kyle Allen left the game for the Washington Football Team with an injury.

Following Washington's loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Rivera reacted to Smith's return and Allen's injury status, per The Athletic's Ben Standig.

In the second quarter of Sunday's game, Allen escaped the pocket and began running toward the first down on the sideline. However, as he was trying to get the first down, Jalen Ramsey delivered a massive hit to the Washington Football Team passer while Allen was lowering his head himself.

The referees would call a helmet-to-helmet hit and would reward Washington with the first down. At the same time, Allen would need to go to the sideline to get checked for a possible concussion.

Even though he was cleared to return, Washington stuck with Smith for the rest of the game. Of course, Smith was playing in his first game since he suffered the gruesome leg injury near the end of the 2018 season.

It was an awesome yet worrisome sight to see Smith be able to play football in the NFL again. While Smith impressed Rivera with his ability to stand tall in the pocket, he was also fond of how Allen performed before he got injured.

Rivera did share that Allen will be the starting quarterback for Washington in Week 6 versus the New York Giants if he's healthy. Despite Washington losing a lopsided game to the Rams in the rain, Rivera seems confident in his current quarterback situation.
