Who would've thought the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Washington Football Team and New York Giants would turn into an instant classic?

Following the dramatic, 30-29 victory for the Washington Football Team, quarterback Taylor Heinicke didn't hold back his thoughts when he was asked if he thinks he should be the starter the rest of the year, per ProFootballTalk.

“I do, and I have confidence that I can do it,” Heinicke answered. “So if those guys in the locker room and the facility believe in me, that’s all that matters, and I believe they do.”

Ryan Fitzpatrick was brought over in the offseason to be the starter for the Washington Football Team but suffered a serious hip injury in Week 1 that landed him on injured reserve for the time being. While his timeline for a return to the field is a bit foggy, he will certainly be out for quite a few weeks.

Heinicke was impressive against the Giants, going 34-46 for 336 yards and two touchdowns. He did have one critical interception late in the 4th quarter that almost cost the Washington Football Team the game but outside of that, he dazzled.

For now, this isn't something Ron Rivera has to be worried about at all. However, whenever Fitzpatrick gets the all clear to return, it will become a certain talking point pending that Heinicke keeps playing the way he did on Thursday night.
