Two weeks after their dominant win over the short-handed Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Football Team will look for its third win of the season against another NFC East rival in the New York Giants.

Unfortunately, they will have to do it without quarterback Kyle Allen, who went down with an ankle injury late in the first quarter and was carted off the field.

After the gruesome injury, several media members feared that Allen’s ankle injury looked similar to the injury suffered by Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, also against the Giants in Week 5.

The initial diagnosis for Allen's injury is a dislocated ankle with a small fracture, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Adam Silverstein of CBS Sports, meanwhile, compared Allen’s injury to Prescott’s and Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward, who suffered a similar injury in his first game with Boston three seasons ago. Both injuries were later diagnosed as dislocated ankle and fractured tibia, which sidelined Hayward for months and will also give Prescott a similar recovery period.

The 24-year old Allen, who was previously a quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, has played in three games for Washington this season, completing 55 of his 80 passes for 548 receiving yards and four passing touchdowns.

He was previously sidelined in the team’s Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams after suffering a helmet to helmer hit from Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Allen returned a week later in the Washington Football Team’s first meeting against the Giants, which they lost by the slimmest of margins, 20-19.

In Allen’s absence, Washington has played backup quarterback Alex Smith in his place, who previously played in their Week 5 game against the Rams.

However, it should be noted that Smith has also dealt with career-threatening injuries in the past as New York Post’s Jake Brown noted.
