Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney recently stepped down as the manager of Championship outfit Derby County, who were relegated at the end of last season in disappointing fashion. Now, he's eyeing his next move and a return to the MLS could be in the cards with DC United.

As we know, Rooney played for the club between 2018 and 19′. With DC currently struggling in the Eastern Conference, the Englishman is keen on offering his services as their next gaffer, per Mark Ogden of ESPN.

League sources told ESPN there have been discussions between Wayne Rooney and D.C. United, but at this time it is just that and nothing further advanced.

When asked by ESPN whether Rooney was in discussions with D.C. United, his spokesperson said: “A number of discussions have taken place with clubs — both at home and abroad — interested in the possibility of Wayne becoming their manager.

“Wayne Rooney remains interested in projects that excite him whilst continuing to develop his skills and knowledge as a manager.

“At this stage, no decision or agreement has been made with any club.”

As mentioned, the negotiations aren't serious at this point. But, Wayne Rooney is clearly keen on the idea of making the move back to the States again. DC United has won just five games this term and sits in second-last place.

Wayne Rooney knows what it's like to take over a team that is in poor form. That was the case at Derby County. However, a change of scenery out of the UK could be enticing. We'll see if he ends up in the US.
