Despite being part of a loaded 2020 NFL Draft class, experts were surprised to see Jalen Hurts fall to the second round of the NFL draft. He won a National Title with Alabama and finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting his senior season as a dual-threat QB. As the fifth quarterback took in his draft class, many wondered why the Eagles took Hurts since they still had former 2nd overall pick, Carson Wentz. Four years later, let's revisit the quarterbacks selected ahead of Hurts and see how their careers have panned out.

1st pick, Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals)

This was an easy choice to make for the Bengals. Joe Burrow's final season at LSU was one of the most successful seasons in college history. Once he made the NFL, nothing much has changed. While he has had to miss time due to different injuries, a healthy Burrow has proven himself to be deserving of the top pick.

Not only has Burrow led them to a Super Bowl appearance but he has already set multiple passing records for the franchise in just four seasons.

5th pick, Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins)

As the man who took Jalen Hurts' starting job at Alabama, Tagovailoa had a rocky start to his NFL career.  He was hampered by injuries, which had him seriously consider early retirement. However, when the Dolphins made a change in their coaching staff and wide receivers, Tagovailoa showed signs of being the elite player he was anticipated to be.

6th pick, Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers)

Right after Tagovailoa, was Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert. Known for his arm strength and poise in the pocket, Herbert nearly had a 100 career passer rating through his first three seasons. While he's yet to lead the Chargers to a postseason victory, Herbert is well on course to be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL for a decade.

26th pick, Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers)

Jordan Love was the final quarterback selected before Jalen Hurts. Serving as Aaron Rodgers’ backup for the majority of his early career, Love had limited opportunities to showcase his abilities with Rodgers still playing at a high level. Once he was given a chance, Love showed that he was capable of leading a franchise as well. It's still too early to tell if Love can outperform the quarterbacks of his draft class a few years from now, but if his first season as a starter was any indication, his chances are pretty high.
