Sony State of Play is just right around the corner which has players wondering what to expect from the event. The June 2 Sony State of Play will most probably not talk about God of War Ragnarok, but will probably talk about Final Fantasy 16 or Forsaken, especially since Sony was so kind to manage expectations by clearly stating that this one will feature mostly third-party titles. So, here are things that you should be expecting instead in the upcoming State of Play this Thursday.

PSVR2 and its 20 launch titles

Earlier this year, Sony introduced the all-new PSVR 2 which was first revealed back in January. By this time we are all aware that the new VR system is specifically designed for the PS5. While that may sound very interesting and all, Sony never really mentioned what games should players expect utilizing the PS5’s power. With that being said, it’s probable that Sony would announce the upcoming titles for the PSVR 2 during the State of Play, especially considering that the company recently revealed that the PSVR 2 will have 20 titles within its library at launch.

The only first-party title we’re aware of so far is a game called Horizon: Call of the Mountain developed by Guerrilla Games. There’s still no confirmation regarding other titles, however, Sony also contacted other studios like Coatsink (Moonglow Bay), nDreams (Phantom: Covert Ops), and First Contact Entertainment (Solaris Offworld Combat). We’ll just have to wait and see if announcements for PSVR 2 games will happen during the State of Play.

Highly-anticipated titles possibly appearing for the June 2 Sony State of Play

Aside from the highly anticipated PSVR 2, fans are patiently waiting for three major titles to release in the near future. (Read also: Top 10 Upcoming PS5 Games Not Coming to Xbox Series X and Switch). These games are namely God of War: Ragnarok, Final Fantasy 16, and Hogwarts Legacy.  State of Play is typically Sony’s platform to make major announcements for upcoming game releases and teasers. Hogwarts Legacy is without a doubt a game that looks like it’ll take the gaming world by storm and fans are eager to finally play it. After seeing the trailer two years ago and the gameplay reveal just a couple of months ago, the only thing missing is a release date. Chances are a new trailer with a release date towards the end of the video will make its debut during the State of Play.

Another title players are looking out for is Final Fantasy 16. First announced at the same State of Play as Hogwarts Legacy, FF16 is taking an interesting direction in terms of storyline. Based on what we know so far, the game is set in a medieval world filled with signature Final Fantasy action. Unlike Hogwarts Legacy, Square Enix has been silent regarding the game’s release date and what actual gameplay would look like. However, given the history between Sony and Square Enix, we’re bound to get updates regarding FF16. We feel like their absence in the previous State of Play was so they could showcase more detailed gameplay content in the upcoming event.

Sad to say, we can’t say the same for God of War: Ragnarok since Sony is yet to decide on a final release date. Plus, there’s also the fact that this coming State of Play will focus more on third-party titles and PSVR news. Square Enix’s FF16 may be a PS5 exclusive, however, they’re still considered a third-party title. Even so, we’re still hopeful that Sony will at least give us even the slightest update about God of War: Ragnarok.

Last but not least, State of Play might feature some upcoming indie PS5 titles. The PlayStation 5 has been out for a little over a year now and the library of games is still very limited. Since the next-gen console is soon approaching its 2nd birthday, it’s about time that Sony released some new games.
