While it's not exactly a blockbuster trade that is going to change the landscape of the American League, the Chicago White Sox went out and acquired Cleveland second baseman Cesar Hernandez on Thursday, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Hernandez' numbers won't jump out on the page but he provides depth at a spot where the White Sox really needed it.

In his second season in Cleveland, the always available Hernandez is hitting .231 with 18 home runs and 47 RBI in 96 games played. He now moves to a division rival in the White Sox as they look to make a push deep into October.

Chicago is likely looking to add a couple of bats at the deadline if the deal is right. Their rotation is one of the best in baseball as it features Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn and Carlos Rodon. The bullpen has been good and could stand for a boost at the deadline as well.

The White Sox are having a really solid season and they have the largest division lead of any team in baseball. It's in fact Cleveland who is in second place behind Chicago in the AL Central, but they trail the White Sox by 8 games. As a result, they felt comfortable giving Chicago another bat as Cleveland continues to fad out of the picture in the American League.

It isn't a name that will send waves through the trade market but the White Sox went out and added a bat and a player that can be available everyday and play more than one position defensively.
