Chicago White Sox fans saw their worst World Baseball Classic fears come to life during the USA vs. Cuba semifinal matchup on Sunday. Third baseman Yoan Moncada was seen writhing in pain on the field after a scary collision with teammate Roel Santos while trying to gather a fly ball.

USA Slugger Kyle Schwarber sent a towering fly ball to shallow left field, sending both Moncada and Santos after it as it fluttered to no man's land. That led to an awkward crash between the two leaving the White Sox player laying on the ground.

It wasn't clear what the actual injured area was at a glance, but MLB insider Bob Nightengale filled in concerned White Sox fans shortly after.

“Chicago White Sox outfielder Yoan Moncada was diagnosed with a concussion, and perhaps bruised ribs, but Cuba baseball officials say he should be fine.”

While a concussion and hurt ribs are never good news, it's definitely a welcome diagnosis compared to anything that could have kept him out for the foreseeable future and impacted his availability for the coming MLB season. Given the lopsided 13-2 score at the time, having Moncada get hurt in what was a runaway affair would have been a tough blow for both Cubans and White Sox fans alike.

The World Baseball Classic has seen some devastating injuries to stars like Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and Mets closer Edwin Diaz. Thankfully, Yoan Moncada was able to avoid becoming another name on the injured list from what's been a spectacular event and celebration of baseball.
