The Chicago White Sox have World Series ambitions after winning the AL Central last season. But they also have a lot of key players with injuries, especially on the mound. Lance Lynn, Garrett Crochet, Joe Kelly and Ryan Burr are all banged up, meaning a lot of pressure is on Lucas Giolito to step up.

Giolito, a 2019 All-Star, opened the season against the Detroit Tigers on fire. Through 4.0 innings, he tallied six strikeouts, allowed just three hitters on base (a pair of walks and a hit) and didn't allow any runs to the Tigers' revamped lineup. Unfortunately for Chicago, he left his strong outing against their division foe with abdominal tightness. The team announced he will be evaluated.

The White Sox can't afford to lose Giolito for a long stretch of the season. Although Chicago signed Johnny Cueto, they have a need for pitching after Lynn tore a tendon in his knee and Carlos Rodon left in free agency. In 178.2 innings last season, Giolito recorded a 3.53 ERA with 201 strikeouts. He and Dylan Cease, who posted a 3.91 ERA last season, are now extra important as the Sox look to win over 90 games again.

Chicago is also dealing with an injury to third baseman Yoan Moncada, who strained his oblique. The White Sox are the favorites to win the division again but they might have to work their way out of a whole if they sustain any more injuries.
