The announcements for Team USA keep coming as the deadline approaches. On Tuesday, Chris Paul, Kevin Love, and Khris Middleton all announced their decision to join Team USA and play in the Tokyo Olympics. The list of players who had previously committed is lengthy and is full of an abundance of talent.

While that is a ton of talent, there is one looming question that remains.

Will Chris Paul, Khris Middleton, and Devin Booker still play if they make it to the NBA Finals?

Honestly, who knows. The decision by Booker wasn't entirely surprising, and neither was Middleton's. For Paul, he has battled injury and is up there in age, so his commitment is the most surprising of the three.

With both the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks in their respective conference finals, a trip to the NBA Finals would extend their season that much longer.

Playing the hypotheticals, if either team makes the Finals, they could be playing all the way up until July 22, if the NBA doesn't end up changing the dates. The start date for the Tokyo Olympics is Friday, July 23, and runs up until mid-August.

That would then give each player only two months to prepare for a brand new NBA season after playing from December until August. It doesn't seem ideal, but who knows.

The Suns are facing the Los Angeles Clippers and the Bucks are facing the Atlanta Hawks, and essentially all of the players would miss Team USA camps if the Finas end up involving their two sides– which isn't unlikely at this point.

Paul is in health and safety protocols, and Middleton and Booker have shouldered a heavy load all season long, and the playoffs are no exception. Booker is locked in to play regardless of what happens, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

“I’ll tell you this about Devin, he said to me, ‘Even if we (the Suns) go all the way in the Finals and I only have three days to get to Tokyo, I’ll be there,’” Jerry Colangelo told The Athletic.

Team USA's first game is scheduled for July 25, no more than 72 hours after a possible Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Training camp starts at the beginning of July, so if the Bucks and the Suns get ousted, they could join in time. Otherwise, they will be rushed back to basketball action right after the NBA Finals are over.

This is unprecedented, as the NBA Finals usually conclude in mid-June, giving players more than enough time to prepare for the Games. However, due to the late start from the COVID-19 season, everything is pushed back, and now these stars have some decisions to make.

First things first, advance to the NBA Finals, then worry about the rest. It will be interesting to see if these players change their minds amid a potential run to the NBA Finals.

Only time will tell.
