The Dallas Wings defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 84-83 on Sunday. It was a competitive contest that saw the Wings emerge victorious in the end. Wings head coach Latricia Trammel offered a passionate admission following the win, via the Dallas Wings on X (formerly Twitter).

“Yeah, that's why I was bragging on them in the locker room,” Trammell said after the game. “I mean, we ended the night with only six turnovers. And think about how depleted we are, tired. But to come back and have the discipline… This is a perfect example. And so I am just amazed at this group. I mean, as these two young ladies have mentioned we're coming together. We go back to our motto, ‘stand on it.' And that's exactly what they did.”

Dallas is now 3-2 in the 2024 season. They started the season with a victory before losing back-to-back games. The Wings have now won two games in a row amid their current road trip, though.

Injuries have certainly impacted the season so far. Satou Sabally and Natasha Howard are both currently out as a result. The Wings signed Monique Billings after Natasha Howard suffered an injury, however, and Billings has performed well since joining Dallas.

Monique Billings making major impact for Wings

Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas with 20 points on Sunday. Monique Billings had 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds in a double-double effort. Billings added four assists as well.

She is averaging 15.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per outing. It is clear that she is making a positive impact for the Wings.

Trammell addressed Billings' effort during a postgame locker room speech, via the Wings.

“I'm just proud of you, and I'm happy for you,” Trammell said. “I'm happy because we're coming together, you know what I mean? But I'm going to give this drip chain to Mo (Billings).”

Billings, 28, has played in the WNBA since 2018. She played for the Atlanta Dream from 2018-2023. Billings found herself without a team to begin the 2024 season, but Dallas signed her after losing Howard.

There is no question that the Wings miss Howard. Dallas is hopeful that she can return as soon as possible. When she does return, though, it looks like the Wings will also keep Billings on the roster given her impressive performance thus far.

Looking ahead

The Wings, as mentioned earlier, now hold a 3-2 record for the '24 campaign. They are tied for third in the Western Conference with the Phoenix Mercury.

Finding success despite injuries is a difficult task to accomplish. As Trammell mentioned, though, Dallas has found a way to come together and perform well. The Wings have now won back-to-back games and will look to carry their momentum into their next clash.

The Wings have two games remaining on their current road trip. First, they will play the Connecticut Sun on Friday before traveling to Minnesota to battle the Lynx on Sunday. The Wings will then return home for a highly-anticipated matchup against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces on July 5.
