Wisconsin football just landed a huge commitment. The Badgers are getting the services of wide receiver Eugene Hilton Jr., per On3. Eugene is the son of NFL player T.Y. Hilton. The wideout chose Wisconsin over Georgia and Michigan. He is a member of the 2025 recruiting class.

This commitment is a major recruiting coup for head coach Luke Fickell, who is trying to rebuild Wisconsin into a national power in college football. Eugene Hilton is a three star recruit, per On3, but holds a four star rating from Rivals. He is a 6-foot-2, 170 pound wide receiver who also held offers from Big Ten programs Purdue and Michigan State, among a slew of other schools. Virtually every power 4 program wanted the talented young man.

Apple falls close to the tree

Eugene's father is former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton. T.Y is currently a free agent in the NFL. He is a four-time Pro Bowler in the league, with 54 career touchdowns. T.Y. has 638 catches in his pro career, for 9,812 yards. He also played for the Dallas Cowboys.

T.Y. finished the 2016 season as the leader in receiving yards for the league. He last played in the NFL during the 2022 season, but hasn't officially retired from the league. The veteran played his college football at Florida International, where he was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year during the 2010 season. He was also the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year in 2008. T.Y. famously chose Florida International over West Virginia, because his son chose the FIU hat instead of the West Virginia hat before signing day. It would be interesting if T.Y. did the same thing for Eugene when Eugene was choosing a school.

Eugene has more than 1,440 receiving yards in his high school career, per Max Preps. He posted 10 receiving touchdowns during his junior season. Eugene is a multi-sport athlete, who also plays basketball.

Wisconsin is entering the second season under coach Luke Fickell. Fickell came to Madison after having a successful tenure at the University of Cincinnati. In his first full season with Wisconsin football, the coach finished 7-6. The Badgers lost to LSU in the RealiaQuest Bowl, 35-31, at the end of last season.

Expectations are high that Fickell will pick up even more wins in 2024. The Big Ten Conference is changing, with USC, UCLA Oregon and Washington now in the fold. Michigan has dominated the league in the last few years, and coach Jim Harbaugh has now left the school for the NFL. Wisconsin is fighting for position with several other schools, including Penn State and Ohio State, in this new version of the league.

The Badgers begin their season on August 30 against Western Michigan. Wisconsin also has non conference games against South Dakota and Alabama, before playing their first conference game against USC.

Wisconsin football fans are undoubtedly very happy to get one of the best wide receivers on the 2025 board.
