Right before this past Thursday's trading deadline, the Chicago Bulls dealt Jabari Parker, Bobby Portis, and a second-round pick for Washington Wizards' swingman Otto Porter. This trade helped the Wizards gain some cap relief. It helped the Bulls gain a much-needed depth at the three.
However, all day Friday Bobby Portis seemed to be in his feels publicly on Twitter. He would tweet out “lol” whenever somebody would say something negative bout him. When a tweet sent out by ESPN Stats Info put him in a positive light, Portis responded to a tweet with laughing emojis. He clearly felt undervalued by the Bulls organization.
Before he was traded, Portis was the longest-tenured member of the team. He was always in the shadow of Nikola Mirotic. His fight with the stretch big man caused Mirotic to be sent out of town. Then, Markkanen stood in Portis's way. He never had the opportunity to get true starting minutes.
Hopefully, he'll be paid well this offseason and earn himself a contract elsewhere. This season for the Bulls, he averaged 24.1 minutes while scoring 14.1 points, grabbing 7.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
The Bulls have been a mess all season long. After firing Fred Hoiberg, the team didn't rally around the newly promoted coach, Jim Boylen. They've been very dysfunctional. Hopefully, with the addition of Porter, the team may soon find its identity.
The Wizards have also struggled this season, trading away most of their assets not named John Wall or Bradley Beal. They're heading to a full rebuild.
