Remember when many said Oscar Robertson's triple-double record will never be broken? Well, Russell Westbrook is probably laughing hard right now. If only hashtags were already a thing during Robertson's time, Westbrook's patented #WhyNot? would've been absolutely perfect.
Westbrook finally broke the Big O's record for most career triple-doubles after tallying his 182nd on Monday against the Atlanta Hawks.
The former MVP has truly defied the odds in setting his latest milestone. Robertson's record stood for decades, with even some NBA players thinking it will never be duplicated. Well, here we are now.
When asked after the game if someone will break his triple-double record as well, Westbrook gave a bold prediction (via Chris Hughes of NBCS Washington).

With the way Westbrook has piled up the numbers, it might take more than 50 years for someone to surpass his feat. The former UCLA standout has done it at such a breakneck pace that younger players might find it hard to duplicate. Others have chided him for simply padding up his numbers, but Westbrook has also compiled the wins.
Westbrook achieved the record after grabbing his 10th rebound against the Hawks with 8:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. At that point, he already had 21 points and 16 assists. He finished with are-you-kidding-me numbers of 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 21 assists. It was his 36th triple-double in 62 games this season.
Westbrook's latest achievement will surely be a hard one to beat. But as they say, records are meant to be broken. So as Russell Westbrook himself would say, #WhyNot?
