The Washington Wizards made a big splash this past offseason by acquiring Spencer Dinwiddie as part of the five-team trade that sent Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers. Dinwiddie got a three-year, $54 million deal in the process to be the team's new starting point guard next to All-Star Bradley Beal.

The Wizards got off to a hot start this season, but they've tapered off and currently sit at 23-24, which is good for 10th in the Eastern Conference. Washington is just ahead of the New York Knicks and suddenly streaking Atlanta Hawks, so a spot in the play-in tournament is certainly no lock.

Meanwhile, Dinwiddie has struggled through a mediocre campaign. With the Feb. 10 trade deadline in just over two weeks, Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus says there's some belief around the NBA that the Wizards could be open to dealing Dinwiddie. This comes amid chatter that Washington is the leading trade suitor for Detroit Pistons star Jerami Grant. It's unclear if Dinwiddie would be part of a Grant deal (the Pistons don't really need Dinwiddie) or if the Wizards are just open to moving him in general.

Dinwiddie has struggled to mesh with Beal and is putting up pedestrian numbers this season. The guard is averaging 13.5 points, 5.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting just 39.2% from the field and 32.0% from 3-point range. While he barely played last season because of a torn ACL, Washington surely expected more from him after giving him that contract.

Now, it's worth noting that Dinwiddie's $54 million isn't fully guaranteed, with only $10 million of that third year guaranteed. That could help in trade talks. While it still feels unlikely that the Wizards move him right away, it seems this is a situation to monitor.
