The offseason has barely even started, but most teams are already planning for the summer of 2019 – which is expected to have a host of quality free agents including the likes of Kemba Walker, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, and Kristaps Porzingis, among many others depending on whether they sign extensions or opt in.

One of the more talked about players on that bumper crop of talent is the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Jimmy Butler. The 6-foot-8 offensive and defensive ace has a player option after the season to forego the final $19.8 million on his remaining two year contract and is primed for a substantial pay raise on what could be his final huge payday.

The rumored teams that have interest on the swingman were fairly small at first (mostly due to cap space reasons) but with the Denver Nuggets completing a salary dump recently of underused forward Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur (along with first rounders to boot), the Mile High City franchise just became a major player in 2019.

It helps that the said target is buddies with one of your city’s top sports athletes too.

The 28 year-old is good friends with the Denver Broncos’ Demaryius Thomas and the pair have been hanging out in Greece, which the football star has extensively documented on his Instagram account.

The Nuggets are indeed a palatable choice for the All-NBA Defensive Team fixture, with a core of a re-signed Will Barton and superstar center Nikola Jokic, as well as Gary Harris, Jamal Murray, and the promising Michael Porter Jr. – the team is ripe for serious contention, narrowly finishing the year on ninth place.

Only time will tell how Jimmy Butler reacts to his friend’s request.
