The United States, Mexico, and Canada are set to host the 2026 Fifa World Cup, with the final to be played in the United States. Once a front-runner to host the final, Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles is now in jeopardy of coming up short on its bid.

Concern from Fifa over the dimensions of the field at SoFi Stadium is the primary reason the game might be played elsewhere. Fifa deemed the field too narrow to meet the global soccer organization's requirements.

Not only is the field not up to par, but Fifa has an attendance minimum for the World Cup final that SoFi Stadium is currently not meeting. SoFi Stadium seats 70,240 people, and the minimum put in place by Fifa for the final is 80,000.

This can read like an exorbitant amount of people, but the popularity of the game calls for such a large attendance. The most recent World Cup final between Argentina and France saw 88,966 people in attendance, a World Cup record.

SoFi Stadium is not out of the running to host the game, but it has some serious work to do in order to convert a successful bid. As of right now, AT&T Stadium in Dallas and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey are more likely to host the World Cup final.

Some of the work that will need to be done includes removing seats. This will help the problem regarding the dimensions of the field, but will inherently hurt the fact that SoFi Stadium needs more seating to meet Fifa requirements. Plenty of time remains before a decision will be made, but some innovative solutions will be needed in order to appease the Fifa brass.
