The Holdovers, American Fiction and Succession won big at the recent 2024 Writers Guild Awards, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There were two ceremonies held simultaneously in New York and Los Angeles.
David Hemingson won best original screenplay for The Holdovers. Cord Jefferson won best adapted screenplay for American Fiction which as was based on Percival Everett's 2011 novel Erasure.
The Succession writers won the best drama series award. Best comedy series award went to The Bear, while the best new series trophy was awarded to team from HBO's The Last of Us. Beef added another feather to its cap by winning best limited series.
In Los Angeles, Jefferson won the Paul Selvin Award. Walter Hill of The Getaway and 48 Hours was given the Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement, and the television writing achievement award went to Designing Women's Linda Bloodworth Thomason.
In New York, the Morgan Cox Award was given to the co-chairs of the 2023 WGA negotiating committee, Chris Keyser and David A. Goodman for their leadership during the strike last year.
Tony Gilroy, creator of Andor and writer of the Bourne films won the Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Career Achievement. Fellow Travelers creator and writer of 1993's Philadelphia Ron Nyswaner received the Walter Bernstein Award.
