It has been a wild season for New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman. And it got even wilder on Saturday when he allowed the Baltimore Orioles to occupy all bases in the top of the ninth inning and allow the go-ahead run that gave the O's the 4-3 win. It was certainly a loss that's tough to swallow for Aaron Boone and the Yankees. Apart from the fact that the Yankees shouldn't be losing at home against the worst team in baseball today, the loss also came on the heels of a brilliant stretch from Chapman.

Nevertheless, Boone remains bullish about the Yankees closer.

Via Peter Botte of the New York Post:

“Before today, I thought his previous two outings were not only strong, but really efficient,” Boone said of Chapman. “Then today, even when it started to get a little wobbly there, I feel like he was able to corral it. I feel like that was important.”

Chapman entered the Orioles game with a 1.65 ERA across 17 appearances on the mound since he picked up a loss on July 4 to the New York Mets.

The loss to the Orioles can't also be entirely pinned on Chapman — or the team's bullpen as a whole. (Wandy Peralta gave up two earned runs on four hits in 1/3 of an ining.) The Yankees could have given their pitchers better run support in this game, but they did not score until the seventh frame.

The Yankees will look to recover Sunday afternoon in the finale of this three-game set against Baltimore.
