The New York Yankees have been hit hard by COVID-19 issues recently. Aaron Judge missed some time, as did Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery, who are currently on the COVID-19 list. Now Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez also has tested positive for the virus, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com

The virus just keeps hitting the Yankees, which is absolutely brutal considering they are doing whatever they can to make up some ground in the American League East.

While Sanchez hasn't been himself this season, he has still produced somewhat decent numbers. On the year, he is hitting just .216 but has smacked 17 home runs while driving in 39. Nonetheless, losing Sanchez– as well as the others who are dealing with the virus– is a huge blow for the Yankees.

The Yankees are six games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the top spot in the AL East and 4.5 back of the Boston Red Sox for second. As far as the AL Wild Card race is concerned, the Yankees and Seattle Mariners keep flip-flopping with each other. However, the Oakland Athletics and the Red Sox are the two teams, for now, and New York has their work cut out for them if they want to make a run.

The good news, however, is that Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo were acquired at the MLB trade deadline, and they will need them drastically if they want to snatch a playoff spot.
