Young Sheldon is a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. And the prequel series' first spin-off, which will be led by Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, has gotten a title, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. It's also coming a lot sooner than expected.

CBS announced its fall lineup (via Variety) on May 2. Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage will be debuting later this year in a shocking twist. While the network ordered it earlier this year, this was a rather quick development. Young Sheldon is still airing its final season and will release its final episode on May 16.

Similar to its predecessor, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage will air on Thursday nights at 8 pm ET. It essentially takes over the spot Young Sheldon has held down. The series was also listed under its fall and spring lineup.

What is Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage about?

As its title suggests, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage will follow the title characters' marriage. Montana Jordan has played Georgie, Sheldon's older brother, since Young Sheldon premiered in 2017. Emily Osment was introduced in the sixth season of the series.

In the show, Mandy meets Georgie at his aunt's laundromat. They end up getting pregnant upon hanging out, which isn't a popular decision amongst the Cooper clan. For one, they have a large age gap between the two (they both lied to each other about their respective ages).

But they go through with the pregnancy, and Mandy gives birth to their daughter, Connie (nicknamed “CeeCee”) after Georgie's Meemaw (played by Annie Potts).

In The Big Bang Theory, it's made clear that Georgie has been divorced and married another woman. That means that Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage has a lot of room to play with in the series.

There are years before Georgie reaches the age he is in The Big Bang Theory, so if all goes well, perhaps there could be several seasons of the show. It also sounds like they may break up at least once since this will depict their “first” marriage.

Why is Young Sheldon getting a spin-off?

Even though Young Sheldon is ending, the universe doesn't have to. The CBS sitcom has become a beloved addition to their slate. And capitalizing on its popularity while the iron is hot is smart.

Young Sheldon is a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. In that series, Jim Parsons played an adult Sheldon Cooper. However, in the prequel series, Iain Armitage assumed the role (Parsons does serve as the narrator of the series, though).

The prequel depicts Sheldon's early life growing up in Texas. It follows him as he graduates high school and college at a young age. Zoe Perry and Lance Barber star as Sheldon's parents, Mary and George Sr. Cooper, respectively. Annie Potts plays his Meemaw, and Montana Jordan and Raegan Revord play his brother and sister, Georgie and Missy Cooper.

Currently, Young Sheldon is airing its final season. After seven seasons, the CBS hit will come to an end. There are three episodes left, including the May 2 one. The finale will air on May 16, which will be the final taste of Young Sheldon until Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage.
