The New York Knicks are entering this year's offseason after a 37-45 campaign and a last-place finish in their division in 2021. New York followed up securing their first playoff berth since the 2012-13 season with their eighth losing season in the last nine years. And that's how you flush away any feelings of optimism in one fell swoop!

In all seriousness, Knicks fans have been through enough. It's time to get this franchise back to where it needs to be, but New York needs to do that the right way: through the NBA Draft. New York has a promising group of youngsters in RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Mitchell Robinson and Obi Toppin.

However, the Knicks need more young talent. Armed with the 11th pick in the first round and the 42nd pick in the second round, the franchise has two bites at the apple for a chance to get a talented prospect. While any difference-makers are likely to arrive via the Knicks' lottery pick, there are still some capable prospects in the second round.

Given the Knicks' track record, they can't entirely be trusted to get the NBA Draft right. That said, this is the one player the Knicks must avoid.

1 Player Knicks Must Avoid In NBA Draft

One of the Knicks' biggest needs entering the NBA Draft is at point guard. However, that doesn't mean that the team should reach for a player just because it's a position of need. The one player the Knicks should avoid is Kentucky's TyTy Washington. Washington was worked out by New York a couple of weeks ago.

A 6-3 guard, Washington averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Wildcats in 2021. The Kentucky product said that he played off the ball more this past year, but that he can be a capable facilitator and a “true point guard.” That should be music to the Knicks' ears right?

Well not exactly. For starters, Washington suffered an ankle injury that concerned many, as he didn't look the same after it. But the biggest knock on Washington might have the most to do with who is already on the Knicks' depth chart: Immanuel Quickley.

Quickley's size makes him more of a fit point guard, creating a potential competition between he and Washington, if the Knicks selected the Kentucky product.

If the Knicks are going to reach for a player in the NBA draft- and Washington would definitely be a bit of a reach at 11, given where he's mocked- they had better take a player with a clear path to playing time.

Washington is a talented player, though the Knicks are better off looking elsewhere in the first round, then targeting someone like Ryan Rollins in the second round to be their backup point.
