The Green Bay Packers are preparing for a very interesting season. This will be the first season for the Packers without either Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre playing quarterback for them in over two decades, so Green Bay faithful will certainly have all eyes on Jordan Love. Everything out of the Packers offseason so far indicates an 100% confidence in Love as the signal-caller, but that will all remain to be truly seen until his results on Sunday this fall. Nevertheless, training camp is very important for the Packers in order to determine who will be able to best help Love in his first year as QB1. This is why the main positional battles to watch during Packers training camp will be on offense, specifically at running back and wide receiver. Before the 2023 NFL season begins, the Packers training camp battles to watch will be Romeo Doubs vs. Christian Watson and AJ Dillon vs. Aaron Jones.

All four of these players were major players on the Packers offense last year and figure to be this year regardless of who gets more touches. Training camp will be all about figuring out which of these guys has the best chemistry with Jordan Love and which has a game that fits best with how Love wants to play quarterback. Both training camp and preseason will be pivotal in determining what kind of offense the Packers want to install, and it truly will all come down to how to make Love feel as comfortable as possible. This not only puts a lot of pressure on the positional battles for these guys, but the overall style of play for all of these players as well. It is clear that offense is the priority for Packers training camp, which is why the battles between Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, and AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones will be super intriguing to watch.

Romeo Doubs vs. Christian Watson

Going into last season the chemistry between Romeo Doubs and Aaron Rodgers was all the rage. However, Doubs got off to an extremely slow start and suffered a lot of drop issues that pretty much plagued his entire season. Overall, the Packers offense really struggled last year and had a major lull period of being unable to score any points. However, this led to greater opportunity for rookie wide receiver Christian Watson, and he seized the chance to make a name for himself. He now heads into his second year as arguably the top wideout on the roster, and training camp will give him the opportunity to establish that. In the meantime, Doubs will try to have something to say about that.

Doubs will definitely be looking to bounce back from last year where he struggled with drops throughout the entire campaign. Christian Watson also had some drop problems at times, so both guys will be looking at training camp as a chance to show their improved consistency. This could end up being the major variable in determining who becomes wide receiver one, as consistency for Love will be the most important trait for his wideouts this year. Doubs and Watson will both be staples on the Packers offense this year, but training camp will be both of their chances to show who should be the number one option catching the ball.

Aaron Jones vs. AJ Dillon

Ever since the Packers drafted AJ Dillon, he has been nipping at the heels of Aaron Jones. Last season the two pretty much became running backs 1A and 1B for the Packers, with the game flow dictating who would get the ball and who would be able to retain the hot hand. In general, the two are very different running backs. Jones is a great receiver out of the backfield and is known for his speed and agility; Dillon is an absolute bruiser who loves to run between the tackles and grind for short yardage situations. This Packers training camp battle will be about figuring out which style works best alongside Jordan Love.

Like Watson and Doubs, both Dillon and Jones are going to be a part of the Packers offense this year. However, their training camp battle will be able to reveal who has a better chemistry out of the backfield with Love, and who in general fits the new offensive scheme that the Packers will be installing after the Aaron Rodgers tenure. It would be prudent to involve both as much as possible this season, although one will inevitably get more opportunity than the other. Come the start of the 2023 NFL regular season, the Packers training camp will have revealed a lot about the battle between AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones.
