The NFL released shocking news that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the 2022 season for betting on games.

Ridley missed games last season as he stepped away to focus on his mental health. He will now miss an entire campaign, putting the Falcons in a difficult spot. Ridley is the team's top wide receiver, and his absence will lead to a big hole.

The Falcons will need to look into acquiring wide receivers this offseason to fill the void and help the offense stay afloat.

3 players Falcons must sign with Calvin Ridley suspended

3. Cedrick Wilson

Wilson is an under-the-radar free agent at wide receiver who would be a good signing for the Falcons. He had a solid season as the fourth option for the high-powered Dallas Cowboys offense. He had 45 receptions for 602 yards and six touchdowns.

In a new situation, Wilson would be a great second or third option due to his skill set. He is a good route runner and has solid speed and quickness. He is also only 26 years old, which makes him a good option for now and the future.

While Wilson doesn't have the same recognition as the other players on this list, he would be an excellent addition to the Falcons.

2. JuJu Smith-Schuster

Smith-Schuster suffered a shoulder injury early in the 2021 season, ending his campaign. While he's coming off an injury, he is a quality wide receiver.

In his last full season in 2020, he had 97 receptions for 831 yards and nine touchdowns. He hasn't been the same player since Antonio Brown left when he was the second option, but he is still a solid wide receiver. JSS would be a good fit in the Falcons offense due to his speed and route-running.

1. Mike Williams

Williams is one of the premier free agent wide receivers on the market. He is coming off a career year with the Los Angeles Chargers and will draw interest from multiple teams. With the news breaking about Ridley, the Falcons should get in on the Williams sweepstakes.

Last season, Williams had 76 receptions for 1,146 yards and nine touchdowns. He is a physical receiver who is great at winning 50/50 balls. This ability makes him a downfield threat, and he often makes big plays.

His game is different from Ridley's, which makes him an excellent signing for this season and beyond. He would be a great compliment to Ridley in the future, similar to his role with the Chargers alongside Keenan Allen.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan thrived with Julio Jones for years, who was a physical receiver. Although Ryan is heading toward the end of his career, getting someone like Williams would be highly beneficial for years to come.

The Falcons will have a tough offseason ahead, especially after losing their top weapon in Ridley. Second-year tight end Kyle Pitts will likely have a more prominent role, but adding a receiver to the offense will be vital.

A good draft and free agency could get the Falcons back to contention in the NFC South.
