The Cincinnati Reds had an interesting season that ended in them not performing the way that fans and players of the Reds expected.

Cincinnati didn't have a bad year by any means as they finished 83-79 and third in the NL Central. But for a team that was expected to make the playoffs and win over 90 games, fans and players were disappointed.

They had many bright spots throughout the season. These included Nicholas Castellano's incredible year. It also included Jonathan India who was just announced as the National League, Jackie Robinson, Rookie of the Year. India is somebody who is going to be built around for the next 10-plus years for the Cincinnati Reds. Castellanos on the other hand looks like he's going to part ways with the Reds and test free agency. This is a major loss for the Reds and somebody that they're going to desperately need to replace.

With free agency starting there are a few players that the Reds might look to go after. Players include Avisail Garcia, Jon Gray, and Trevor Story.  They also might look to add Corey Seager or Carlos Correa as they can use a shortstop to pair next to India. Let's take a look at three players that the Reds should add this offseason.

Three Players The Reds Should Add This Offseason

Avisail Garcia

Garcia had an impressive season last year with the Milwaukee Brewers and is now testing free agency. He finished the season with a 2.9 WAR. He slashed .262/.330/.490. Garcia finished with 29 home runs and 86 RBIs.

He isn't exactly the perfect player to replace Castellanos. There aren't many outfielders who could come in and replace Castellanos and what his bat brings to any lineup that he's featured in. Adding Garcia would definitely help out the Reds. He spent most of his career with the Chicago White Sox and also spent some time with the Detroit Tigers. Garcia knows the Midwest area pretty well so it would be a perfect fit for him and the Reds.

If the Reds want to be contenders and have a chance to win the NL Central against the tough Milwaukee Brewers, they're going to have to make some important decisions this offseason, and spend some money. An outfielder needs to be their number one priority and there aren't many better than Avisail Garcia on the market.

Jon Gray

Jon Gray has had an impressive career even while spending his entire career with the Colorado Rockies. Colorado plays at Coors Field which is the least pitcher-friendly ballpark in all of baseball. He had a decent season last year which included him going 8-12 with a 4.59 ERA. Gray offers elite strike-out stuff as in his career he's struck out 849 batters compared to only 280 walks.

There is a chance that the Reds lose Luis Castillo and even if they retain him, they should still think about adding a starting pitcher. Jon Gray isn't going to be somebody who can come in and be an elite-level arm. The Reds don't necessarily need that as they just need somebody who can be a 3-5 starter in the rotation and find a way to get them 10-12 plus wins next season.

Gray's asking price shouldn't be too much and if they add him they will also be able to add a few other players.

Trevor Story

Trevor Story has been known for a long time as being one of the best hitting shortstops in all of baseball. Last year he had the worst season of his career but that could be attributed to him being fed up with the Colorado Rockies organization and just not playing at 100%. He still had an above-average year finishing with a 4.2 WAR. Story slashed .272/.340/.471 and was also able to add 24 home runs, and 75 RBIs. He also has elite speed for a shortstop and stole 20 bases last season.

Story is going to cost a hefty amount for the Reds but the shortstop position is something that they desperately need to improve. If they want to make another run at the playoffs, they're going to need to spend and he might be the cheapest out of the other three shortstops that include Marcus Semien, Carlos Correa, and Corey Seager. There's also an argument that Story is better than all three of these shortstops and will be cheaper than them.

Despite not making the playoffs last season, Cincinnati still had some bright spots. The front office realizes that they are just a few pieces away from getting back to contending for a championship. They're going to lose a few different pieces this offseason. They're going to have to spend a bit of money to get some other guys back.
