The Los Angeles Chargers have a ton of young talent and are primed for a playoff push this season.

Coming off a 7-9 season the Chargers showed a ton of potential and promise. Rookie quarterback Justin Herbert was everything the franchise could have hoped for and could develop into a star. On the defensive side of the ball they already have young stars including Joey Bosa.

It was not a playoff appearance but it was a successful season for the Chargers. They have identified the future pieces of the roster and have made additions in free agency and the draft to compliment them.

With a great offseason to build on their talent, the Chargers are set up for the future.

Here are 3 potential breakout players for the Chargers next season.

Chargers breakout candidates:

3. Defensive tackle Jerry Tillery

Jerry Tillery has been an underwhelming first round pick for the Chargers so far but could breakout this season. He has shown some improvement throughout his young career but hasn't lived up to the expectations. His production should go up this season with Melvin Ingram leaving the team. Tillery improved from year one to two but could take a big jump in his third year.

2. Safety Nassir Adderly

With not much depth at the safety spot Adderly has the potential to breakout. Adderly spent most of his rookie season on the injured list making his second season more of a learning period. He has a ton of potential and could become a staple of the Chargers defense for many years. The second round pick is an explosive player who is a great ball hawk. His speed and range allows him to get a closing burst to challenge catches. These abilities will help him to develop into a true cornerstone on the defensive end.

1. Quarterback Justin Herbert

Although Herbert had a tremendous rookie season he has the potential to be a superstar. He has already broken rookie records and cemented himself as a franchise quarterback. Herbert's potential is unreal as he could be a Hall of Fame quarterback and can lead this team to a Super Bowl. His great accuracy and sneaky athleticism allows him to make plays all over the field. Look for Herbert to lead this Chargers team back to the playoffs.

In the draft the Chargers selected offensive tackle Rashawn Slater in the 1st round. Slater is the best day one tackle in the class and will provide protection for Herbert. In free-agency they signed Pro Bowl center Corey Linsley who will instantly elevate the offensive lines play. It was evident the Chargers wanted to get protection for Herbert and he will benefit from these moves.

On the defensive side of the ball the Chargers drafted cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. in the second round. Samuel Jr. will help fill the loss of Casey Hayward Jr. who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free-agency. He should help revive the secondary and the defensive talent is ready to become an elite group.

The Chargers talent should put it all together this season and make a playoff run.
