Between the regular season and playoffs, Brock Purdy has started just seven games for the San Francsco 49ers. However, Purdy has led the 49ers to a 7-0 record during those starts, earning himself a nomination for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Purdy is a ROY finalist next to the Seahawks' Kenneth Walker and the Jets' Garrett Wilson, via the NFL Network. A member of the 49ers has not been named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year since the award was established in 1967.
Brock Purdy entered the season as San Francisco's third-string quarterback. However, after long-term injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, he was thrust into a starter role.
Purdy was impressive during the regular season, helping the 49ers clinch the NFC West. He completed 67.1% of his passes for 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. He has now helped lead San Francisco to the NFC Championship, throwing for 546 yards and three touchdowns and running for another score over the 49ers' two postseason wins.
Walker and Wilson have both had strong seasons in their own right. Walker rushed for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns during the regular season while Wilson caught 83 passes for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns.
While Walker and Wilson had elongated success over the entire season, Purdy burst onto the scene towards the end of it. Still, his success in helping lead the 49ers to a chance at the Super Bowl now has him in the running for OROY.
When the season began, no one expected Purdy to see the field. Now, he has a chance to lead his 49ers to the Super Bowl and earn Offensive Rookie of the Year.
