San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens has built quite the chemistry with other teammates during his ascension to starting quarterback, particularly star tight end George Kittle (via the San Jose Mercury's Cam Inman).

Mullens has found great success so far into the season. He's seen additional playing time after starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went down with an ankle injury in Week 2 against the New York Jets. He finished the contest throwing 131 yards for two touchdowns before exiting.

In his absence, Mullens has been winning over fans and teammates, namely Kittle. Through two games, Mullens has thrown for 414 yards while completing 70.2 percent of his passes. He's also thrown one touchdown.

Though Mullens is starting, it's unlikely that he'll retain that role upon Garoppolo's return. The 49ers can find great advantage, however, in having two quarterbacks that can throw defenses off their game.

While Kittle is excited to play with Mullens again, he's probably more excited to be playing again general. The tight end has been out with a knee sprain that he suffered against Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker in Week 1. The four-year tight end was coming off an All-Pro season in 2019. He totaled 1,053 receiving yards while catching 79.4 percent of his targets.

Garoppolo will more than likely make his return in the weeks to come. He didn't practice on Wednesday, but that doesn't rule him out from returning to the field on Sunday or in the near future. The first few weeks have been hard to gauge in terms of success for a 49ers team with arguably the most injuries in the league currently. Getting Kittle back on Sunday will be important in continuing the victories they've had.
