Just about everything about Jimmy Garoppolo has gone up since he arrived on the San Francisco 49ers last season. His net worth has skyrocketed after he signed his mammoth new deal. His reputation among his peers has shot way up, even though Jalen Ramsey thinks that’s undeserved.
Even Jimmy G’s jersey has quickly risen in the rankings to become among the most popular in the entire league. Garoppolo has even surpassed his former New England Patriots teammate and mentor Tom Brady as he finds himself in the No. 2 spot for jerseys sold on NFLShop.com from April 1 through June 23.
Garoppolo is behind only New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who is at No. 1. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is just behind Garoppolo at No. 3, with Brady slotting in at No. 4 and Cleveland Browns rookie Baker Mayfield rounding out the top five.
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Garoppolo’s popularity has gone way up in such a short amount of time after stepping out of Brady's shadow in New England.
While the sample size of his work as a starter remains relatively small, he has nevertheless looked impressive in leading the Niners to a perfect 5-0 record during his starts. And of course, the fact that he’s leading one of the most popular teams in the league has also helped his public profile significantly.
But despite Jimmy G’s meteoric rise, he still needs to prove he’s the real deal during his sophomore season. If he succeeds the way Wentz did in Year 2 with the Eagles, though, then that could mean a lot more of his jerseys getting sold.
